Volunteer Programs

AIO runs on volunteers - and there is something for everyone!

Food Pantry Team

The Pantry Team talks to clients and assists them with getting the food they need. You will be helping clients through the market. This position includes checking clients in, assisting in the market, and enrolling new clients.

Shift Times: Monday and Friday mornings 10:00 AM - Noon, and Wednesday shifts throughout the day.

Diaper Project Team

Help stock the market with diapers, manage inventory, and assist in diaper drives to increase diaper availability for families.

Note: this role is performed outside while we provide drive-through diaper distribution service.
Shift Times: Wednesday mornings & evenings

Energy Assistance Team

You will call clients and fuel companies to order a fuel delivery to clients’ homes. You will also work with clients to set up payment plans to energy companies.

Shift Times: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9:00 - Noon.

Weekend Meals Program

This team packs bags of food in an assembly line for students to eat over the weekend.

Note: this program is only held during the school year (September - June).
Shift Times: Wednesday afternoons

Warehouse Team

You will be packing boxes and bags of food for curbside pickup. This shift will also unload deliveries of food, sort boxes, take inventory, and put away the deliveries in the warehouse and walk-in refrigerator.

Shift Times: Monday-Friday mornings and afternoons

AIO Driver

As a driver you will either pick up cases of food from grocery stores to bring to AIO, pick up diaper donations from daycares to bring to AIO, or pick up cases of weekend meal bags from AIO to bring to schools.

Note: this role requires your own car and you must be able to lift 30lbs.
Shift Times: Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings and Friday afternoons

Community Garden Team

The garden team will be cultivating AIO’s raised beds by watering, weeding, planting, and harvesting fruits & veggies for the food pantry.

Note: this team is only active during the growing season (May - October).
Shift Times: Every morning

Food Pantry Volunteers

The Market Team talks to clients and assists them with getting the food they need. You will be helping clients through the market. This position includes checking clients in, assisting in the market, and enrolling new clients.

Food Pantry Volunteer Tasks

Clients arrive with an AIO enrollment card. The reception volunteer uses a desktop computer with barcode scanner to check in the client shopper. This position is the greeter and the first interaction with AIO for the day. Interpersonal skills, cheery welcome, and moderate computer skills are great!
Assistant shoppers accompany client shoppers to help in food selections and to appropriate item quantities.
Restocking pantry shelves following direction for the market director.
